Funding and Sponsorship Efforts

Securing adequate funding for an event of this scale is no small feat. Project Director of MXGP Indonesia, Diaz Rahmah Irhani, has reported that only 50 percent of the required Rp50 billion has been secured so far. "The sponsorship comes from Pertamina. Other state-owned enterprises are still in the process, and there's still lobbying happening up to a week before the event, so it's possible that more sponsors will come in," Diaz explained.

Financial assistance from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is also being pursued. Diaz mentioned that they are targeting an additional Rp24 billion from the Ministry. "It is still in progress. We are continuously following up. The last information I received was that there had been a meeting with the Ministry of Finance, and I am still waiting for the latest update from the Ministry of Tourism," she added. Despite the challenges, the organizers remain optimistic that the event will proceed as planned.

Preparation of the Selaparang Airport Circuit

The main event will take place at the former Selaparang Airport, which is currently undergoing significant construction work. With about two weeks remaining, Diaz expressed confidence that all requirements would be met. "All heavy equipment has arrived. I have also inspected the circuit location with the MXGP chairman. It is in progress, and two international track masters have arrived," she said.

The Selaparang Airport holds historical significance and is now being transformed into a world-class motocross circuit. Post the 2023 MXGP event, the circuit had not seen much maintenance, but efforts are now in full swing to ensure it meets international standards. To address the construction needs, six pieces of heavy equipment have been deployed. "The Track Master said everything is under control. We are using approximately six pieces of heavy equipment. They said it's according to the timeline," Diaz reassured.

This year, there will be a stronger emphasis on utilizing local vendors from NTB for the event's setup, though vendors from outside NTB will also play a role. "The construction of the circuit area will start on Friday. Vendors from outside NTB will begin moving in on Wednesday. According to the mandate from our Chairman, most of the work will be done by local vendors," Diaz mentioned. This strategy not only ensures the timely completion of the project but also supports the local economy by providing jobs and opportunities for local businesses.

Community Impact and International Participation

The MXGP event is expected to bring substantial benefits to the local community, boosting the economy and creating numerous opportunities for local businesses and vendors. The influx of international visitors will also contribute to the region's exposure and tourism. As for the participants, the exact number of racers is still to be confirmed, with ongoing MXGP series at other circuits. However, Diaz highlighted that more than 300 visas have been issued for teams and riders, ensuring a significant international presence.
