To gauge expatriate preferences, InterNation conducted a survey among over 12,000 expatriates from 181 countries with diverse backgrounds, focusing on criteria such as safety, local friendliness, quality of life, cultural diversity, outdoor activities, cost of living, and work-life balance. The survey results highlighted Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand as dream destinations for US citizens.

Editors Lilly Graves and Jamie Ditaranto further specified Bali, Lombok, Sumba, and Jakarta as the most coveted bases for expatriates within Indonesia. They emphasized that beyond Bali's renowned beaches, Indonesia's vast archipelago of over 18,000 islands offers a myriad of destinations with rich cultural experiences.
