Lombok international Airport upgrade commenced operating in October 2011 but I already unable to handle the number of passengers using the airport annually.

Lombok International Airport management said that the recent number of passenger and planes to Lombok has increased in recent years.

The airport handled 3,421,284 passengers in 2016, an increase of 34% over the previous year’s 2,552,399 passengers.

AP I expects the number of passengers to reach 3.6 million in 2017.

Compared to 2011, when the airport opened and recorded 1,676,921 passengers, this is a significant increase and the airport – never fully operational from the time it opened – desperately needs to be upgraded.

This month, API announced that it had allocated a budget of Rp 205 billion (approx US$15,426,311) to improve the airport/s infrastructure, including Rp 78 billion for apron expansion.

AP I Lombok General Manager, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, told reporters that all facilities and infrastructure at LIA will be re-organised over the next two years.
