The treasures of North East Lombok undoubtedly begin with the offerings of Mount Rinjani, which is the highest volcano in the territory, reaching some 3,726 metres. Where in the world can you hike up a volcano by day, pitch a tent and spend the night, then wake up above the clouds to watch sunrise? Similarly, if waterfalls are your thing, you will not be disappointed by Lombok’s jungle gems, especially Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep.
There are also many national parks such as Pusuk Sembalum and UNESCO Geopark that showcase the island’s wildlife and their natural habits.
Or what about Gili Kondo Secret Island? Known as the King of the Eastern Gilis, this tiny islet is the perfect place to get away from it all. With no hotels or guest houses, Gili Kondo is for those seeking a day or two of peaceful beach-based bliss, where camping is by tent or under the stars, and food options are essentially what you bring with you.
Free of pollution, the island is cared for by an elderly local couple, who are always very hospitable. Stop by and say hello as you circumnavigate the small island’s white sand coast on foot. It only takes half an hour.
